Catherine Canino
Catherine Canino Jewelry is designed and handmade in New York City by Catherine, a RISD-trained jeweler and metalsmith, and her team of skilled artisans. Her work marries natural materials such as sterling silver, gold-dipped brass, mother-of-pearl, calf skin leather, and semiprecious stones, with evocative talisman, traditional symbols, and equestrian-influenced hardware. Catherine finds inspiration in antique hardware and jewelry, the mingling of organic materials, and most importantly, the women of impeccable style, grace, and charisma that we have the good fortune to call our clients. Catherine lives in Manhattan with her husband Anthony, son Luca, and Airedale terrier Otto. Her passions, other than jewelry design, include her family, friends, a glass of champagne, and new shoes. The beautiful pearls she uses are hand crafted from mother of pearl shells. Collected by South Sea fisherman at depths of 50-150 meters the large shells are carved into bead shapes, then lacquered and polished over 18 times to draw out the natural color and luster. The result is an organic, handmade, luster pearl that rivals Tahitian in look but not price. Her knotted necklaces are hand stung using the strongest blend of nylon-silk thread available. Pendant and earring pearls are set and cemented individually by hand
