Charm School

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

One trend we are LOVING right now (if you can’t tell) is charms! From Mizuki to Ileana Makri to our newest artist, Erica Molinari! We are seeing visions of diamond encrusted feathers, micro pave crosses and  hand forged coins,  just begging to be mixed, matched and piled high!

Sure each charm makes for a fabulous pendant to wear on it’s own but just take a moment to think of all the incredibly gorgeous possibilities! Take a deep breath… it’s about to get realllyyyy good….

Dust off that lackluster necklace banished to the bottom drawer of your jewelry box and add one of these babies!Or give your everyday staple a little boost with something like this! Either way these charms are such a cool and easy way to instantly update and transform your look!

As soon as these orders came in we  dive-bombed the charms like a bunch of 40-year- old bridesmaids going after the bouquet, which led to a series of swoons and a few moments of mild hyperventilation.

Andrea decided that this little Diamond Dot Charm looked perfect with her favorite Jeanine Payer piece (we all agreed) . I added this oxidized Evil Eye Charm to my Cherry Blossom Necklace and almost passed out, and Jodi layered this Diamond Quill Charm with her favorite Wilhardt and King piece for the most fabulous mix of oxidized silver, gold and diamonds.

Whether you are a full blown charm-a-holic or just testing the waters, I hope today’s lesson has inspired you to mix, match and revamp your charm collection with some of our fabulous new arrivals! Until next time… I’ll be dreaming of this!

Peace.Love.Jewelry

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

At NEWTW!ST we are always eager to  layer  up our favorite pieces, this eclectic mix of necklaces features different artist’s interpretations of the iconic peace sign. From the traditional peace sign, to a pendant inscribed with the Chinese symbol for peace,  each trinket  holds a special meaning to the wearer. “It is my greatest pleasure to produce a piece of jewelry which is filled with true meaning and inspiration for the wearer. I like to envision that each piece is symbolic and also a reminder of what is important in life”, Aurora Lopez-Mejia states about her jewelry collection. They are a wonderful message to others, as well as a personal talisman….not to mention SO fashionable!

The message of peace, as well as love can be spread through jewelry, art, photography, music, writing, communication, actions, and attitude. Whichever you choose, may peace and love grow throughout the world, and may it be inside each and every one of you. Below is  one of our favorite peace quotes for you all to enjoy!

“Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.” – Unknown

Frankie’s Spring Must-Haves

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Robindira Unsworth’s Paisley Drop Earrings are lightweight, playful, and frame your face. Earrings for me are not just a must have for every occasion, but a never leave the house without accessory! The 22k gold vermeil is universally flattering, especially going into summer with a tan, and so rich in color that it makes your eyes pop!  I love the delicate paisley pattern because it feels exotic, as if you just came home from traveling and picked the earrings up at market in Cairo or Istanbul.  Robindira is quickly becoming one of my favorite jewelry artists.

Albeit’s Ampersand Necklace will quickly become a staple in your wardrobe regardless of your individual look.  The stripped down, back to basics approach to design makes this necklace both trendsetting and timeless!   Any of the numbers, letters, or symbols are great if you are building a layered look or just searching for an all the time standard necklace to spice up your business wear.  Best of all the 14K gold chain is so delicate it can be worn with both silver and gold effortlessly.  Look how amazing it looks with Jessie’s blue blouse!  We also just started carrying Albeit in white gold in the store, and would love to show it to you if you are downtown.

I am a bangle addict so I was soooo excited when we ordered  Saundra Messinger and received a whole bangle story.  The Thin Organic Bangle is my personal favorite!  There are delicately inlaid diamonds in all the bangles for a touch of glamour that will nestle in perfectly with any bracelet story.  If you know any sweet girls who are graduating the bracelet pictured would make a perfect gift!  I love that the two bands are connected creating a cuff at the bottom adding some modern flare to the piece.

For all of the July babies out there (including myself) Gurhan has a Ruby Ring that was made for you!  His design combines eye-catching 24K gold and silver that makes the ruby’s enchanting red color pop.  It looks beautiful flying solo or would be fabulous with other stacking rings; might I suggest the Melissa Joy Manning gold set of  8 stacking rings for a start!

Looks We Love: Vintage

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Okay, can we just say there are so many benefits to shopping vintage! Besides the obvious reasons that pieces from Vintage by Jill Pearson and Joli Jewelry are just plain awesome, there is the fact that you are being environmentally conscious in using recycled materials. Joli Jewelry and Vintage by Jill Pearson create limited edition pieces by combining vintage and new materials in each unique piece. Whether it’s a brooch from the 1950’s turned into a pendant or re-claimed buttons turned into a pair of earrings, each piece has it’s own story.

Andrea recently sent Jill some of her grandmother’s pieces to re-create these cherished heirlooms. Here is her story.

Andrea’s grandmother was a woman of style and glamour. She had a beautiful collection of jewelry and an incredible knack for bringing life into anything she wore. Occasionally, an earring would go missing leaving behind a sad mate, or a stone would fall out of cherished pendant. Instead of throwing away these “mis-fits”, she would keep them and use them to decorate found objects in her home, add a special touch to a gift-wrap or glue them on this decorative tree mural.

Thanks to Jill at Wasabi, a broken brooch covered in both glue and meaning, was completely transformed…

….into this gorgeous necklace that Andrea can now wear as a special little homage to her grandmother and a way to keep her close to her heart always.

We hope this inspires you to explore more vintage looks! Stay tuned for “Looks we Love : Vintage II” where we show you how to wear these cool one-of-a-kind pieces! Be sure to check out Jill’s amazing new line, Wasabi Vintage for more treasured finds!

Trend Alert!

Everyone from Gurhan to Robindira Unsworth is incorporating this cool look into their designs.I am an absolute lover of gold, but these creations have me completely enamored! Pieces like this are an easy way to add a little edge to your look, and layer up beautifully with other pieces from your jewelry box. Whether your current go-to piece is  silver or gold, a nice oxidized silver piece adds just a tinge of toughness to your ensemble that works so perfectly!
I am currently obsessing over this necklace, I would love to see it over a springy dress or worn over a simple cotton T!

If you wear nothing else no woman should leave the house without a fabulous pair of earrings.  Whether you are going out on the town, grocery shopping, meeting friends for lunch, or taking the kids for a play date a great pair of statement earrings are all you need to complete your look. Chandelier earrings are great for any length of hair worn pulled up or down like these Melissa Joy Manning gold hoops.  Earrings are also a great way to complement a new dress that just needs a little splash of color like these stunning Robindira Unsworth triple drop earrings.  Whatever your style a quintessential jewelry must have are bold earrings!

Jamie Joseph… we’re addicted

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Last night I went to my first cocktail party of the holiday season, and I decided to borrow our NEW Jamie Joseph Rock Crystal Twin Locket Necklace.  I wore dark denim jeans, my studded frye boots, and a black silk top, which were complemented perfectly with this modern locket.  The oxidized sterling chain paired with the gold accented crystals makes the necklace both dressy and casual.  The length of the chain is 34”, which is a great style for layering, but last night I wore it solo and it stole the show.  I was already addicted to Jamie Joseph’s rings and now that I have taken it out on a test drive I can add this necklace to my Christmas wish list!

Jodi, Ildiko and I all came in today wearing our beloved Wink necklaces by Jeanine Payer… a perfect little treasure that we all cherish. It is our guardian angel that gets us through the roller coaster ride of life.

the quote reads:

“Like a ship that took me safely through the wildest storm of all”

What being “Bold & Bright” means to Natalie

Friday, November 6th, 2009

NatalieHow would you describe your everyday style?

For my everyday style I really like clothing that stands out, mostly bright solids, fun dresses, and animal prints! I am a happy, outgoing person and I like my clothing and accessories to reflect that. I find that surrounding myself with vivid colors always puts me in a better mood and brightens my day. My favorite accessory is my hot pink, sparkly, leopard-print tote. I don’t leave home without it, because that bag perfectly sums up my style. In my opinion, when it comes to accessorizing, go BIG or go home!

How would you describe your personality?

Vivacious, loyal, fun

What do your jewelry style and personality traits have in common?

Jewelry Style/Personality: I’m drawn to jewelry with personality. I love pieces that some people might feel are over-the-top, but it’s all about personal preference. It’s fun to stand out!

How does this influence the way you help customers?

I am friendly and love to laugh! I am always willing to share a story about jewelry that I love, or life in general. I want customers to have a great time while they are shopping for jewelry, it’s an enjoyable experience- especially at NEWTW!ST! There is an amazing energy in the store, it’s constantly upbeat and entertaining. I always hope the customers have as much fun shopping as we do working!

What is something you have learned about your jewelry style since you started working at NEWTW!ST?

Be open-minded and take a chance. I didn’t like mixing metals before I worked at NEWTW!ST, and now I can’t get enough of it! Also, don’t judge a piece of jewelry at first glance. Certain pieces might look intimidating or difficult to pull off, but play around with different ideas! You may surprise yourself and be more BOLD than you think.

What is your favorite fall trend this year?

Brightly colored boots!

What is a piece of jewelry/style advice you would like to share?

Choose a style that you’re comfortable with, regardless of how other people react.

Okay, so who are the artists and some of the pieces that you wear most often?

Nava Zahavi is amazing. Every piece she creates is show-stopping. The mixture of large stones and bright 24 karat gold creates fabulous results!

Jamie Joseph is always a favorite. Her rings are so unique and special, every one is different and every person can find a stone that suits them.

Alexis Bittar and his lucite collections are incredible! This was a material I was unfamiliar with before I started working at NEWTW!ST. It’s so light weight and easy to wear. Every piece adds a whole new dynamic to a look. Also, the color options are endless!

What being “Charming” means to Lauren

IMG_0300How would you describe your everyday style?

Simple, yet rich. I tend to wear my hair down and straight, with soft, natural makeup (except when doing photo shoots for blogs, of course). I love showing off my blonde hair and find that a simple beauty routine really lets my hair shine. As for dress I tend to focus on one thing at a time. Whether it be an over-the-top blouse with a simple pant or a killer pair of boots with a simple dress, I like to give all my pieces their time to shine! It’s all about balance.

How would you describe your personality?

Honest, funny, perfectionist. I have a hard time being anything less than brutally honest. People, even some of my dearest friends, are often surprised by the things that can come out of my mouth. I’m just not afraid to be myself. I love laughing and making others laugh, and am not afraid to be totally goofy if that’s what it takes. As for the perfectionist, well, you should see my planner, checkbook, bedroom, closet, car……

What do your jewelry style and personality traits have in common?

I’m very fashion forward and love to stay up to date on trends, but I can only wear things that I love. If a trend doesn’t feel right on me, I can’t do it. My honesty takes over and I have to accept that some things  just are not for me. So I move on and wear what feels best.

How does this influence the way you help customers?

I find that many of our customers really enjoy the advice we offer on what is fashionable and I love to give it. However, if a customer tries on a new trend and it just doesn’t seem to work, I’m not afraid to share with them that there might be something else more suitable.

What is something you have learned about your jewelry style since you started working at NEWTW!ST?

Yellow gold is beautiful and I love it on me! For years I’ve seen yellow gold edging its way back into the lime-light through fashion magazines, but not until I began working at NEWTW!ST did I see how pertinent it had become to the jewelry world. It only took one day and a couple test runs at NEWTW!ST to have me sold.

What is your favorite fall trend this year?

Scarves, hands down. I wear scarves ALL THE TIME. There are so many ways to wear them and so many fabrics to choose from that you can (and I do) wear them year round. Although they are more than just a trend to me, I appreciate the fact that they are in this season; there are so many available now to choose from!

What is a piece of jewelry/style advice you would like to share?

Don’t let yourself get stuck in a rut! Even if you love your style, you should always allow yourself to try on new hats (or in this case, jewels) and see if there is anything new that you can incorporate into your look. You might be surprised as to what looks really work for you!

Okay, so who are the artists and some of the pieces that you wear most often?

Where to begin…..

Nava Zahavi: Talk about rich! These pieces are so strong and beautiful, just one can make your entire look.

Melissa Joy Manning: I have been raving about her since my first day here. Her large triangle hoops are stunning and weigh almost nothing. I love big earrings, and to finally own a pair that don’t make my ear lobes hang to the floor is pretty fantastic.

Jamie Joseph: My hands have never looked so good! A simple piece with a huge statement.

Jane Hollinger: The necklace you never take off. Simple and stunning. Perfect.

Wasabi: For pair of timeless pearl studs, at a price that will make you grin.

Jude Frances: Their diamond hoop earrings are to-die-for!
