Charm School

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

One trend we are LOVING right now (if you can’t tell) is charms! From Mizuki to Ileana Makri to our newest artist, Erica Molinari! We are seeing visions of diamond encrusted feathers, micro pave crosses and  hand forged coins,  just begging to be mixed, matched and piled high!

Sure each charm makes for a fabulous pendant to wear on it’s own but just take a moment to think of all the incredibly gorgeous possibilities! Take a deep breath… it’s about to get realllyyyy good….

Dust off that lackluster necklace banished to the bottom drawer of your jewelry box and add one of these babies!Or give your everyday staple a little boost with something like this! Either way these charms are such a cool and easy way to instantly update and transform your look!

As soon as these orders came in we  dive-bombed the charms like a bunch of 40-year- old bridesmaids going after the bouquet, which led to a series of swoons and a few moments of mild hyperventilation.

Andrea decided that this little Diamond Dot Charm looked perfect with her favorite Jeanine Payer piece (we all agreed) . I added this oxidized Evil Eye Charm to my Cherry Blossom Necklace and almost passed out, and Jodi layered this Diamond Quill Charm with her favorite Wilhardt and King piece for the most fabulous mix of oxidized silver, gold and diamonds.

Whether you are a full blown charm-a-holic or just testing the waters, I hope today’s lesson has inspired you to mix, match and revamp your charm collection with some of our fabulous new arrivals! Until next time… I’ll be dreaming of this!

Love Laurel

Friday, July 30th, 2010

To celebrate the long anticipated arrival of summer in Oregon I decided to dress up my uniform of Frye boots, an Anthropologie cardigan, and summer frock with a little dose of chic in the form of a Laurel Denise leather bracelet.  Since 2005 Laurel Smith has been designing an urban remembrance of jewelry as an expression of the soul with delightful quotations to wear that spark imagination and creativity.

She proclaims her art form as “accessorizing the accessory” because she engraves words and phrases onto necklaces and bracelets.  The idea first came to her in a dream, which accounts for the whimsical nature of her designs, and has transformed into our favorite NEW line of jewelry!  These bracelets from her Texture line make great gifts, and sister bracelets.  All of the girls at NEWTW!ST purchased matching bracelets with the words ”she lives life in her own little fairytale” to remind us of our friendship and artistic sensibility.  Thank you to Laurel for brightening up our summer!

Welcome Samantha!

Hi! I’m Samantha Zorn. I grew up in Eugene and have done my fair share of shopping in the 5th Street Market. My father loves NEWTW!ST and has shopped here for decades. Having a father of an all-female family means we have received many gifts from NEWTW!ST over the years.

I am currently working toward a Bachelors degree from the University of Oregon in International and African Studies. I recently returned from Cape Town, South Africa where I interned at a refugee center for three months. I love to travel and this passion strongly influences my jewelry tastes! I am drawn to bright, exotic pieces that make me feel sexy and confident therefore, Robindira Unsworth, Gurhan and Melissa Joy Manning are three of my favorites artists. I love both gold and silver and all three of these artists do a great job of mixing them together into beautifully crafted pieces. In addition to exotic pieces I love the simplicity of both statement pieces, like Me&Ro or Jamie Joseph, and “barely-there” jewelry such as Jane Hollinger or Albeit.

Working at NEWTW!ST is such a treat because not only do I have the opportunity to learn about jewelry and brighten a customer’s day by finding them something perfect, but I also get to work with the most wonderful and beautiful women. Life truly is a blessing when you love what you do!

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Adam Skagen!

A former NEWTW!STER and dear friend got married last month and we were  lucky enough to share the magical day with her!

When we heard that Lauren was engaged we knew we had to send her down the aisle with a fabulous “something borrowed” so Andrea and I had a blast picking out some sparkly options for our beloved Lola!

Because the dress had crystal detailing on the asymmetrical strap we decided to just stick with some gorgeous earrings so that the necklace wouldn’t be competing with the neckline of the dress. Lauren also had a floral headpiece made, so we wanted to make sure the earrings we chose would not detract from but compliment the vintage vibe she was going for.

After looking through some stunning Dana Kellin, Talisman Unlimited and Jamie Joseph, we all landed on Jude Frances earrings (similar to these)! These earrings looked amazing and added another sparkly dimension while still maintaining the clean classic look Lauren was going for!

She was the most radiant bride (as you can see in the pictures… hello model?!) and the day was filled with laughter, joy and tears! We felt so honored to be a part of her special day! Congratulations again to the newlyweds!! We love you Lauren!

Welcome Katie!

My name is Katie Brody and I am one of the newer editions to the NEWTW!ST family.  I am so excited and blessed to have the opportunity to work with all the wonderful women here at NEWTW!ST.  Being born and raised in Eugene, I have grown up hearing about and wearing NEWTW!ST jewelry.  I am currently a senior at the University of Oregon studying Elementary Education and also work across the street at Face !t.  Before working at both stores I studied abroad in Siena, Italy for three months.  It was the most amazing experience of my life and is something that is such a huge part of who I am.  Traveling around Europe I saw many different styles of jewelry and also different ways that people express themselves.  I’m still growing into my own, which also includes my style when it comes to jewelry.  I have my pieces I wear every day like my Jane Hollinger heart necklace or my Melissa Joy Manning silver stacking rings.  In the process of learning the many artists, I learned about Jamie Joseph and her beautiful rings.  I just purchased one of Jamie’s aqua chalcedony rings and finally feel like I’m part of the family.

This past month was my 21st birthday and I was lucky enough to receive a few different pieces from the store.  My grandmother gave me the white gold Albeit with the parenthesis necklace.  It’s delicate and simple, which is perfect for layering.  Colleen was also sweet enough to give me this Dogeared  necklace to signify the journey that I am about to take here at NEWTW!ST.

Graduation Gift Guide

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Graduation is a time of excitement, promise, and possibility that we at NEWTW!ST love to be a part of with you! As special friends and family prepare to don their square caps and funny tassels to celebrate all of their hard work, I’m thinking of the best ways to show them how proud I am of all of their accomplishments!

For the world-traveler: Is your graduate planning to travel the world and learn what she’s made of? This Jeanine Payer Nantes necklace quotes Shakespeare  “This above all: to thine own self be true.”

For the new career woman: Entering job market can be intimidating and exciting. Your college grad needs a classic piece to give her confidence as she goes on job interviews! The Albeit necklaces in white and yellow gold are unique and beautiful enough to give her the special edge she needs for success!

For the girl leaving home for college: If your daughter is headed to the opposite coast for school, this piece by Me & Ro will remind her what it takes to relentlessly pursue her dreams.
For the friend who’s still trying to find her own path: Do you have a friend starting a new journey come June? At a fabulous price, the Dogeared “It’s the Journey” necklace encourages them to enjoy life and never give up! (This is a great  one for all you mom’s and dad’s out there that have a long list of grads to buy for)

No matter where your grad is headed on their new journey they are sure to find success with the love and support of their friends and family. Come on down to NEWTW!ST, we would cherish the chance to help you think of something special to show how proud you are!

A New Addition to the NEWTW!ST Family

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Hello everyone! My name is Mya Keartes, and I am so excited to be joining the NEWTW!ST team. Recently returning from a four-month journey to the beautiful country of Israel, I am now beginning a new journey full of beauty at NEWTW!ST. Born and raised in Eugene, Oregon, I have adored  and shopped at NEWTW!ST for a number of years.  I am thrilled to spend my days helping our wonderful customers find a piece of NEWTW!ST’s marvelous collection which speaks to them. With NEWTW!ST’s vast variety, there is surely something to fit each and every age, occasion, and style. Dance and writing are very important forms of expression in my life.  I instantly gravitated to jewelry designers Jeanine Payer and Aurora Lopez-Mejia. Although the two artists have a different style, the messages, quotes, and writings they inscribe are full of inspiration, interpretation, and passion.  I also love the simple, yet meaningful “Make A Wish” Necklaces created by Dogeared. And of course, I cannot forget the astonishing Jamie Joseph rings! They are a great statement piece for every woman. Much like my personality, Jamie Joseph’s famous rings are full of vibrant color and fun, yet elegant and sophisticated. I can’t wait to continue learning from my welcoming and lovely co-workers, as well as our customers. Looking forward to seeing you all in the store!
