Charm School

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

One trend we are LOVING right now (if you can’t tell) is charms! From Mizuki to Ileana Makri to our newest artist, Erica Molinari! We are seeing visions of diamond encrusted feathers, micro pave crosses and  hand forged coins,  just begging to be mixed, matched and piled high!

Sure each charm makes for a fabulous pendant to wear on it’s own but just take a moment to think of all the incredibly gorgeous possibilities! Take a deep breath… it’s about to get realllyyyy good….

Dust off that lackluster necklace banished to the bottom drawer of your jewelry box and add one of these babies!Or give your everyday staple a little boost with something like this! Either way these charms are such a cool and easy way to instantly update and transform your look!

As soon as these orders came in we  dive-bombed the charms like a bunch of 40-year- old bridesmaids going after the bouquet, which led to a series of swoons and a few moments of mild hyperventilation.

Andrea decided that this little Diamond Dot Charm looked perfect with her favorite Jeanine Payer piece (we all agreed) . I added this oxidized Evil Eye Charm to my Cherry Blossom Necklace and almost passed out, and Jodi layered this Diamond Quill Charm with her favorite Wilhardt and King piece for the most fabulous mix of oxidized silver, gold and diamonds.

Whether you are a full blown charm-a-holic or just testing the waters, I hope today’s lesson has inspired you to mix, match and revamp your charm collection with some of our fabulous new arrivals! Until next time… I’ll be dreaming of this!

Love Laurel

Friday, July 30th, 2010

To celebrate the long anticipated arrival of summer in Oregon I decided to dress up my uniform of Frye boots, an Anthropologie cardigan, and summer frock with a little dose of chic in the form of a Laurel Denise leather bracelet.  Since 2005 Laurel Smith has been designing an urban remembrance of jewelry as an expression of the soul with delightful quotations to wear that spark imagination and creativity.

She proclaims her art form as “accessorizing the accessory” because she engraves words and phrases onto necklaces and bracelets.  The idea first came to her in a dream, which accounts for the whimsical nature of her designs, and has transformed into our favorite NEW line of jewelry!  These bracelets from her Texture line make great gifts, and sister bracelets.  All of the girls at NEWTW!ST purchased matching bracelets with the words ”she lives life in her own little fairytale” to remind us of our friendship and artistic sensibility.  Thank you to Laurel for brightening up our summer!

NEWTW!ST Celebrates Earth Day

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

As a celebration of Earth Day NEWTW!ST would like to recognize some of our many treasured artists who create jewelry with a conscience!

Jamie Joseph-Working together, Jamie and Jeremy Joseph convey their artistic vision by focusing on bringing light, shape, and an organic framework to some of the most beautiful stones in the world.  Not only do they create amazing, one-of-a-kind jewelry, but they also make sure to do so in the most earth-friendly way!  All of their diamonds are Kimberley Certified conflict-free and 99% of their gold is recycled. This Earth Day we celebrate the collective efforts of people doing their part to preserve and enhance our wonderful planet.  Jamie Joseph and her husband embody this movement with their craft.

Me  & Ro- On this earth day we here at NEWTW!ST are celebrating Me & Ro as one of our many artists who take pride in using recycled materials.  All of the 18K gold and sterling silver that Me & Ro uses comes from 100% recycled metal. Furthermore they sponsor eight charities by donating 100% of the sales of select jewelry to the organizations. My favorite is the “Fearlessness” slate necklace. It benefits the Joyful Heart Foundation which helps women and children who are victims of physical battery and sexual abuse.  Me & Ro custom made this piece to embody the spirit of the foundation.

Aurora Lopez Mejia-The wonderful thing about Earth Day is coming together to realize that we are a family.  We all share one earth and one of the greatest things we can do is reach out and help each other.  Aurora Lopez Mejia is an artist who embraced this idea by creating a line of jewelry inspired by the children of Malawi and the work done by Madonna’s Raising Malawi charity.  The proceeds of these custom pieces go directly to the charity, which has provided treatment for 66,000 children and caregivers dealing with HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases.  Combined with efforts to provide education, clean water, and nutritious safe meals, Raising Malawi establishes communal gardens and agricultural inputs to give households the foundation for sustainability.  Aurora Lopez Mejia’s participation in this effort reminds me that we can all use our passion to help others and build up Earth’s community.  Her participation in charitable work and her jewelry act as personal affirmations of the beliefs we find inspirational, and remind us to act with purpose!
Melissa Joy Manning-Melissa Joy Manning is not only one of our favorite artists featured at NEWTW!ST, but her dedication to using the most environmentally friendly processes when creating her jewelry makes her a person to celebrate this Earth Day.  All of her jewelry is made from 100% recycled metals from all US based vendors! Her studio in Oakland, CA  is certified by the “Alameda County Green Certification Process” as a green business, because it uses such environmentally sound practices as employing all recyclable packing and shipping materials, as well as utilizing all Kimberley certified diamonds. Additionally she believes in giving back to her community be donating to local and national charities including www.tooprecioustowear.org which promotes the use of recycled coral in the jewelry making process to protect the endangered species.

Saundra Messinger-Lastly, we would like to draw attention to a beloved artist of ours, Saundra Messinger on account of her decision to use recycled silver in her jewelry collections, and for using gemstones that are purchased from suppliers with a social conscience. Her diamonds are specifically mined in accordance with the Kimberly Process Certification Scheme, ensuring that the profits derived from the diamonds don’t fund civil war. Saundra Messinger is known for her imperfect, geometric shaped jewelry resembling natural textures found throughout our beautiful Earth. Two of Saundra’s most beloved places in nature include the Mississippi River and the Hudson River, which produce gorgeous sea glass. This sea glass has influenced Saundra’s designs and inspired the shape’s of jewelry found throughout her collection.

Frankie’s Spring Must-Haves

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Robindira Unsworth’s Paisley Drop Earrings are lightweight, playful, and frame your face. Earrings for me are not just a must have for every occasion, but a never leave the house without accessory! The 22k gold vermeil is universally flattering, especially going into summer with a tan, and so rich in color that it makes your eyes pop!  I love the delicate paisley pattern because it feels exotic, as if you just came home from traveling and picked the earrings up at market in Cairo or Istanbul.  Robindira is quickly becoming one of my favorite jewelry artists.

Albeit’s Ampersand Necklace will quickly become a staple in your wardrobe regardless of your individual look.  The stripped down, back to basics approach to design makes this necklace both trendsetting and timeless!   Any of the numbers, letters, or symbols are great if you are building a layered look or just searching for an all the time standard necklace to spice up your business wear.  Best of all the 14K gold chain is so delicate it can be worn with both silver and gold effortlessly.  Look how amazing it looks with Jessie’s blue blouse!  We also just started carrying Albeit in white gold in the store, and would love to show it to you if you are downtown.

I am a bangle addict so I was soooo excited when we ordered  Saundra Messinger and received a whole bangle story.  The Thin Organic Bangle is my personal favorite!  There are delicately inlaid diamonds in all the bangles for a touch of glamour that will nestle in perfectly with any bracelet story.  If you know any sweet girls who are graduating the bracelet pictured would make a perfect gift!  I love that the two bands are connected creating a cuff at the bottom adding some modern flare to the piece.

For all of the July babies out there (including myself) Gurhan has a Ruby Ring that was made for you!  His design combines eye-catching 24K gold and silver that makes the ruby’s enchanting red color pop.  It looks beautiful flying solo or would be fabulous with other stacking rings; might I suggest the Melissa Joy Manning gold set of  8 stacking rings for a start!

What We Love About Jane Diaz

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

Jane Diaz has been a staple in our store for years, but her story is one I always find inspiring. New York city native Jane Diaz has collaborated with Nepalese metal smiths for fifteen years to create a unique hand-made line of jewelry. Drawing from her background in anthropology, fine art and dance, she has created a jewelry collection that honors ancient technique while maintaining a modern, wearable charm. As the industrial world seems to be endlessly expanding Jane Diaz values the distinction offered by the “human touch” in each individual piece. From these light as air Whisper Earrings to this substantial Mobile Necklace, each handmade piece is easy to wear, affordable and you can take pride knowing that the jewelry you are wearing is handmade with love and tradition. We are loving the new pieces we just got in, check them out here!

The birds & the bees: How your Jamie Joseph ring came to be

Friday, March 5th, 2010

This past week Collen, Jodi and I (Andrea) made the journey North to Seattle to hand select one-of-a-kind Jamie Joseph rings! It was a fun-filled adventure full of laughter, great food and of course, rainbows of Jamie Joseph rings!  No obstacle was too big. The Pacific Northwest rain didn’t slow us down. The realization that NONE of us had ever pumped our gas before as the gas light turned on? Nothing Colleen couldn’t handle. We were women on a mission!

Soon we arrived at the studio and it was like being a kid in a candy store. There were so many unique and beautiful pieces to choose from! Armed with wishlists from our customers and a passion for beautiful stones, we whirled through her collection, pulling pieces left and right that we knew would find a good home in our store and on our customer’s fingers!

I hope the lovely folks at Jamie’s studio realize just how lucky they are to be surrounded by beauty all day long! (We were in awe!!) Here is Jamie rocking her latest favorite, THE most gorgeous rainbow moonstone we have ever laid our eyes on.

Can you guess what these are?? Our beloved, most cherished, Peruvian Opals!! Isn’t it amazing to see the before and after? Everyone in her studio is so incredibly talented and just breathes life and beauty into stones.

A sneak peak at Jeremy’s hidden stash.

This is where all of the magic happens at the studio complete with a flying trapeze!  Jamie is such an inspiring artist, and we are so proud to be able to share our enthusiasm for her work with you.

Thank you to Jamie, Jeremy, Naomi and the rest of the studio, for taking the time to show us around and help send us on our merry way back to Oregon with our own amazing stash of your beautiful jewelry. We love you guys!

Love Litchi

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Today a sweet customer came into the store looking for the perfect gift for her niece’s very special 13th birthday.  She immediately fell in love ( like all of us at the store already have! ) with these fun, colorful bracelets by Litchi.  The bracelet pictured above on Jessie is adorned with fun good luck charms, one of them being the number 13, which is perfect for a 13th birthday present.  We are also loving Litchi’s long necklaces, worn above by our very own Ildiko.  Come in to NEWTW!ST and we’d love to show you more of this fun, whimsical line!

A Day At the Market

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

This post is dedicated to all of our online shoppers who, because of distance or time, can not make it down to our store at the 5th. Street Public Market in Eugene.  Here are some of the sights, sounds, and friends who make NEWTW!ST feel more like home and family, and less like a business everyday!

Did the groundhog see his shadow, because we are ready for spring!  When you look outside our doors the view is this beautiful courtyard and fountain.  It is a great place to sit for lunch and listen to the soothing sound of the water.

This is our dear friend Lauren stopping by for a visit wearing some beautiful jewelry she has purchased from the store over the years.

On Valentines Day our neighbors Rhythm & Blooms hand delivered this gorgeous bouquet of flowers for one of the girls!  Other than jewelry (of course) nothing makes a girl feel more special than receiving flowers for a special occasion!

One of the best parts of working at a jewelry store are the moments when a couple comes in to pick out their wedding rings.  I always feel so privileged to have been a part of their special moment.

Love Is In The Air…

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

What I  find so meaningful about jewelry is that it freezes the emotion you are feeling in time and becomes your own sacred little reminder . Whether it’s a gift from a dear friend, a significant other, or a gift to yourself… these little treasures provide strength and comfort during times of need. Below is a little Valentines Day collage I put together, with the idea that although precious moments are transient, precious jewelry lasts forever… just scroll down!

Kelsey Joins the NEWTW!ST Family

IMG_1300_2_2

Hello to the NEWTW!ST family!  My name is Kelsey Connell, and I couldn’t be more excited to become a part of this wonderful store.  For our four year anniversary, my boyfriend presented me with a NEWTW!ST gift box and I knew I was in for something special.  It was a Melissa Joy Manning sea blue chalcedony necklace that I wear constantly!  I love blues and pinks because they are fun and feminine, so this was right up my alley.  (I’m already dropping hints about this Jane Hollinger Sweetie necklace for Valentine’s Day.)  I now get the opportunity to help others with gifts for their special someone.  What I love about jewelry is its ability to easily add some color, sass, or elegance to a simple outfit.  Put on and go…yes please!  My time studying English and creative writing is already leading me to a new jewelry obsession: Aurora Lopez Mejia.  Her fabulous pieces combine my love for the beauty in both literature and jewelry. I cannot describe how special and intimate it is to wear a piece of jewelry that captures where you are on life’s journey.  The more I learn about all of the wonderful artists, the more I love being surrounded by creativity at NEWTW!ST.  I can’t wait to explore these fun and fabulous pieces with you!
