Hello 2010!

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

As I welcome 2010, I can’t help but feel lucky, excited and hopeful. I am continuously inspired by our incredibly talented artisans and their work. I get to surround myself with beautiful things that are created by the heart and formed by the hand.

2010 is monumental for me. It marks 1 decade since I began my journey as the owner of NEWTWIST in 2000. This last year served as a wake-up call, a reminder of what is important and, an opportunity to re-evaluate how we lived. We were challenged, we made enormous adjustments and sacrifices….but most importantly, we created an opportunity to enter 2010 with an open mind and open heart.

I am not only hopeful about what this next decade will provide but I am wrapping my arms around this journey. Hand in hand with our artists and our dear customers, I can’t wait to embrace, evolve and grow into 2010 together.

Working at a jewelry store you can imagine it is impossible to pin down one favorite artist in an environment that is filled with so many great artisans, but if I had to select one designer that transcends convention and reinvigorates my love of jewelry with every new piece it would be Melissa Joy Manning.  All of her earrings are lightweight and universally flattering like these gold hoops. The stacking rings and diamond bands, worn alone or layered together, are an effortless way to enrich any jewelry box and outfit. Manning employs a unique variety of natural stones and found materials, like this fossilized wood necklace, as pendants on feminine and delicate chains that combine for a modern look without conforming to any trends. With an emphasis placed on one of a kind and limited edition pieces Melissa Joy Manning’s jewelry is as unexpected and beautiful as the woman wearing it.  In her own words “My jewelry is not an accessory, but an expression.”

If you wear nothing else no woman should leave the house without a fabulous pair of earrings.  Whether you are going out on the town, grocery shopping, meeting friends for lunch, or taking the kids for a play date a great pair of statement earrings are all you need to complete your look. Chandelier earrings are great for any length of hair worn pulled up or down like these Melissa Joy Manning gold hoops.  Earrings are also a great way to complement a new dress that just needs a little splash of color like these stunning Robindira Unsworth triple drop earrings.  Whatever your style a quintessential jewelry must have are bold earrings!

Pearls, Pearls, Pearls!

Wasabi Pearls have always been a staple in our store, and now we are so happy to have them up on the website!  No matter what the woman’s style may be there is always a place for pearls in her jewelry collection. Worn simply with a single strand around the neck or layered up for a statement piece, pearls are as versatile as they are chic! Loved by all women, (from Marie Antoinette to Rihanna) I think it’s safe to say that these babies aren’t going out of style any time soon.

Love them!

I just love initial charms! Available in two sizes, these little gems are a great addition to any charm necklace collection or are perfect to start a new one.  At $30 for the small size and $40 for the larger size, Waxing Poetic’s initial charms are some of my favorites for under $50.

Another one of my  go -to’s is Me & Ro’s Small Joy Disc Necklace. It is sweet, simple and is a great everyday piece.  Inscribed with “Joy” in Sanskrit on the front and in English on the back, this is the perfect addition to any jewelry story this holiday season! For only $85, this is my favorite gift for under $100.
