It’s no secret that the holidays are a time of indulgence. From the cookie exchanges, holiday parties and copious amounts of wine, and my personal favorite CHEESE, it’s easy to over do it. My father is from the Midwest so butter, heavy cream and bacon make serious cameos every holiday.
If you’re anything like me, this was the only green thing you had at your holiday meal, so I thought I would share with you my favorite green smoothie recipe by the famed celebrity nutritionist Kimberly Snyder. Andrea and I are a little bit in love with this woman, she has made this drink part of my morning routine, and I have been singing it’s praises ever since.
I used to wake up, make coffee at home, have another cup about an hour later at work and then the occasional latte in the afternoon. Now, I have one cup in the morning and drink this Glowing Green Smoothie for energy that sustains me all day long. I wouldn’t lie to you guys, this thing is seriously amazing. I even notice a difference in my skin and my perpetually dark under eye area- added bonus yeah! This baby is packed with enzymes, vitamins, fiber and other feel-good things that will have you excited to drink it everyday. Her mantra is, outer beauty is a reflection of inner health- now that is something we should all get behind am I right?!
Click here for the recipe as well as other interesting articles from her blog. I know it looks like a lot of veggies, but the sweetness of the fruit makes it a really refreshing drink. You can also tweak it to what you like, Andrea hates celery so she adds kale and half an orange and I like to skip the cilantro and double up on the parsley and lemon.
If you don’t have a fancy Vitamix blender like she suggests using, don’t fret! I find that blending the romaine in batches first and then adding everything else in gradually works perfectly! Also, for you newbies out there, throw in a couple ice cubes to make it easier to drink.
