Jess Panza’s glass and gold designs are simultaneously classical and modern—a dialogue between past and present. Each one is hand made, one piece at a time. The work combines solid gold and glass, materials which cleave together when heated to form a bond. This bond allows her to create original and timeless jewelry that has a presence and an originality tied to the beauty of life itself. The jewelry is made by melting the glass directly onto the gold and letting nature take over, using raw glass that has been lovingly handcrafted in Osaka, Japan by the Satake family for over 50 years, and which is superior to any other glass in quality and color. Jess then uses an Italian method called ‘Lampworking’ to make the jewelry, melting the glass by hand over an open flame and applying it directly to the metal.
